Snow and Surf Sunday - what could be better?!

Well the weekend didn`t turn out exactly as planned. As usual it dumped on Friday - seriously, it`s been doing this every Friday all FREAKING year. However unfortunately it turned to rain and wind, so we flagged going anywhere on Saturday. Drove out that night though and crashed in our favourite carpark to decide where to go from there. Sunday morning it was sunny, but the wind was still gusting and although the gondola at Sahoro was running, apparently it was running really really slowly. So we decided to flag that. Unfortunately hitting the backcountry was pretty much out too. You can bet the conditions would have been lousy (well I certainly hoped they were as we turned around to head home!) Stopped off at Churui on the way back - sunny, still and free lift tickets. It was closing day apparently - closing day despite having a decent amount of snow. Always the way here. Anyway got out the skis and had a session here, with MH on the board. Good enough.

Back home after that and immediately went to check out the surf, AND IT WAS ON! Not that big, but breaking really really clean. This wasn`t actually my first surf of the year, but my second, as I got in the ocean on Thursday. However that proved to be a mistake as the waves weren`t quite as small as I thought they were - really wanted a nice cruisy session first up. Didn`t last long, as I was just getting hammered! But back to Sunday, had a pretty good time despite the cold and having ZERO upper body strength. Getting into position was hard, and was totally sluggish paddling on to waves and getting to my feet. Arms were just jelly by the end! Had a few good ones though. MH, however, stayed on the shore...

Not bad...

This wasn`t too bad either...
